In an indirect attack on the BJP, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Monday alleged that some forces are working to divide the country and that the people of Telangana should work for the unity of India. He also disapproved of unsolicited comments against Mahatma Gandhi and emphasized the need to curb such attempts.
Inaugurating the state government's two-week-long Independence Day celebrations - Swatantra Bharat Vajrotsava Bi Saptama - at HICC, Ravula said the country was witnessing unfortunate incidents where some sections denigrated Mahatma Gandhi. He said that we should be alert to the forces that create unrest.
“Mahatma Gandhi was a great humanitarian, we call him the father of the nation, but we are witnessing unfortunate events that make him look bad. This is not good at all. We should all condemn whoever makes such attempts again and again. I pray that the glory of Mahatma may spread all over the world. "Goodness never diminishes," said the Chief Minister.
Rao called upon the youth to watch the film 'Gandhi' which will be screened in more than 550 theaters across the state. On this occasion, ministers, public representatives and officials were requested to organize programs in their respective areas.
Colorful dance performances, recitation of Vande Mataram 'Veena', a skit honoring lesser-known women warriors who sacrificed their lives for freedom and sand art depicting the freedom movement were some of the highlights of the occasion.
Rajya Sabha member K. Kesha Rao in his speech accused the Modi government of spreading religious hatred and degrading the parliamentary system. He praised that a lot of progress has been made with the vision of KCR during the eight years of TRS rule.
