World Brain Tumor Day is celebrated every year on June 8 with the aim of educating the public about brain tumors. It also pays tribute to the caregivers involved in the care of brain tumor patients, their families, health care professionals and people with medical conditions.

History of the World Brain Tumour Day is: Deutsche Hirntumorhilfe first celebrated World Brain Tumor Day in 2000 as International Memorial Day. The German Brain Tumor Association (Deutsche Hirntumorhilfe) was founded in 1998 and has over 500 registered members from 14 countries.

What is Brain Tumour: A brain tumor occurs when cells grow at an abnormal rate and form a mass in the brain. There are two types of tumors: cancerous (malignant) tumors and benign tumors, which are non-cancerous.

Brain tumors can be malignant but in most cases can be completely treated. Some common treatments include surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy, anti-caesarean section and steroid therapy.

The German Brain Tumor Association aims to find a cure for brain tumors. The association advocates science and research, especially in neuro-oncology, and facilitates international knowledge transfer. Today is International Memorial Day to raise awareness about brain tumors among the public.

According to the National Health Portal, malignant brain tumors are very common in Germany because about 8,000 people suffer from the disease. Worldwide, about 500 new cases are diagnosed every day. There are even more cases of tumors that cause brain metastases. It most often occurs in children.

The prevalence of brain tumors is increasing in India. According to a study on childhood cancer, brain tumors are more common in girls. The medical condition is also prevalent in adults. The Government of India has launched the National Cancer Control Program with the aim of preventing, testing, diagnosing and treating the disease. Palliative care is in its final stages of development.
