The Telangana government has asked the Center to provide 50 lakh doses of Covid-19 vaccines to speed up the vaccination program in the state. State Health Minister T. Harish Rao wrote to Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Tuesday, seeking immediate supply of 50 lakh doses of Covishield to help speed up precautionary dose administration.

Rao explained to the Union Minister that it has been decided to take up massive activity in the state to provide precautionary doses to the deserving population. Rao wrote that currently only 1.5 lakh doses are being given per day in the state.

He told the Union Minister that the state is not getting the required amount of medicines. The Minister said that based on demand, Telangana has the potential to administer more than 3 lakh precautionary doses per day, which is not being realized due to shortage of vaccines, especially CoviShield.

Rao reminded that the state has repeatedly requested to increase the supply of vaccine. The state health minister highlighted that currently only 2.7 lakh vaccine doses are available in Telangana, which is not enough even for two days, Telangana has completed 106 percent of the first dose administration and 104 percent of the second dose to the public Above 18 years.
