Dr. Tamilisai Soundararajan Governor of Telangana State will hold a ‘Mahila Darbar’ to “hear the unheard voices of women” as part of the public engagement programme ‘praja darbar’ at Raj Bhavan on June 10, said a statement. The programme will be held for one hour from noon to 1 pm, according to the statement.
This Praja Darbar assumes importance as it is the first 'Mahila Darbar' being held in the backdrop of recent incidents of crime against women like rapes and murders in the state and particularly the furor over the gang rape of a minor at an upscale area in the state capital Hyderabad on May 28 and two other cases under POCSO Act.
The Raj Bhavan stated that women who wish to come and meet the Governor can get an appointment by calling 040-23310521 or by emailing the request to rajbhavan-hyd@gov.in.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Governor expressed deep sorrow over the mass rape of a 17-year-old girl and sought a detailed report from the Chief Secretary to Government, DGP. She has not yet received the report. The police have apprehended six people in the gang rape case so far.
Officials said the women's durbar would help her find out about the security situation in the state regarding women's safety and other complaints pending with the government for years. While Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao conveyed his birthday wishes to her in a message, unlike last year, he did not visit Raj Bhavan to meet the Governor on the day.
