Sources said on Tuesday that the Centre's decision to change the flag code and launch the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign is to bring the national flag into homes without being unfurled only in offices and on occasions.

The Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, as part of the 75th anniversary celebrations of Independence, seeks to encourage Indians to display the national flag with almost no restrictions.

All kinds of materials can be used to make flags -- polyester, cotton, wool, silk and khadi bunting material. Previously, machine made and polyester flags were not allowed to be used. There is no size limit either. There is also no restriction on the time of display of the flag.

Earlier, the national flag was allowed to fly from sunrise to sunset irrespective of weather conditions. A member of a public, private organization or educational institution can hoist/display the national flag on all days and occasions, the source said.

The Ministry of Culture said that states have been mobilized to use Self Help Groups (SHGs) for making flags. Local tailoring units and MSMEs are also inducted.

The Ministry of Textiles has identified flag producers who are supplying large quantities of flags. All the 1.6 lakh post offices in the country will also make the flag available for sale at the last mile.

As part of the celebration, the 'Har Ghar Tiranga' program was launched for three days from August 13 to 15 where citizens hoisted the tricolor at their homes. According to the official announcement, more than 20 crore tricolors will be hoisted. On houses for three days.
