Union Minister Smriti Irani on Wednesday inaugurated the East-West Metro Corridor's Sealdah station amid controversy over her "invitation" to Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. Sources in the State Secretariat said that the CM has received the invitation, but she is going to North Bengal on Monday.

However, the Trinamool Congress lashed out at the BJP-led Centre, accusing it of a last-minute invitation amid growing public criticism.

“This is nothing but a last-minute realization of its mistake by the Metro in the face of public criticism. TMC MP Sukhendu Shekhar Roy alleged that they knew that the CM was to visit North Bengal, yet the program was organized without her availability. TMC MP Sudeep Bandopadhyay and TMC MLA Paresh Paul were invited for this program.

With the inauguration of the new facility, Sealda is connected to the IT hub of Sector V, Salt Lake. These services will be available to common people from July 15. The BJP alleged that the TMC was shouting unnecessarily even knowing that the CM had been invited.
