Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a public gathering in RK Puram, Delhi, on Sunday, February 2, where he praised the Union Budget and called it historic for the middle class.
"If someone had a salary of ₹12 lakhs at the time of Jawaharlal Nehru—one-fourth would have gone to tax; if today had been the government of Indira Gandhi—₹10 lakhs of your ₹12 lakh would have gone to the government as tax. Even just 10-12 years back, in Congress time—if you had a salary of ₹12 lakhs—₹2,60,000 would have gone as tax. After yesterday's budget of the BJP government—those who earn ₹12 lakh will not have to pay a single rupee as tax," PM Modi said.
