Alluri Sitarama Raju led the Rampa Rebellion of 1922, which restricted the tribal people's land rights against the British Raj's Madras Forest Act of 1882. He was severely shaken by socio-economic conditions during his extensive travels in the British-ruled tribal areas. He worked among the tribal’s in the 'Manyam' areas near Visakhapatnam and Godavari and mobilized them against the tyranny of the British police, forest and revenue officials.

Union Minister for Tourism and Culture Kishan Reddy has extended an invitation to Telugu Desam leader Chandrababu Naidu to attend the event. Kishan Reddy also spoke to Chandrababu on the phone and said that TDP state president K Achennaidu would represent the party at the event. The Union Minister also invited film star and former Union Minister K Chiranjeevi to the Alluri 125th birth anniversary celebrations.
