Even on Sunday, the water level in Godavari remained high and there was no flood surge. Even if the flood subsided in Bhadrachalam on Saturday, it will take some time for the flood to subside in Rajahmundry.

Hence, the flood warning issued yesterday continued throughout Sunday. While the gauge level was 21.30 feet till 6 pm on Sunday, more than 25 lakh cusecs of flood water was released downstream. At 7 pm the gauge level fell to 21.20 feet. The flood flow also decreased marginally to 24.91 lakh cusecs.

Officials expect the flood level to gradually subside and reach the second danger warning level by Monday.

Several areas of Rajahmundry were inundated due to the rain that fell for an hour on Saturday night and the showers throughout the day. But under normal conditions this water flows into Godavari through various channels like Nalla channel. If it rains, the water will soak in within two hours.

However, as the Godavari flood is currently flowing, all the gates have been closed in the areas where the water meets the Godavari from the respective channels.

This stopped the rain water. Streets and houses were submerged in water in Aryapuram, Alcott Gardens and other areas. In this sequence, the Godavari flood was flowing violently, Seshaiyametta, the temple.

The tourism office on Saturday said floodwaters entered the Vigram Ghat and flooded the vicinity of the ISKCON temple on Sunday. Heavy vehicles like buses and Lorries have been banned from the road-cum-rail bridge due to floods. The bridge was jammed with visitors as only two-wheelers, three-wheelers and cars were plying.
