N Chandrababu Naidu TDP Chief and Leader of Opposition, blaming the government for the failure of over 2 lakh students in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations in the State, on Tuesday demanded that Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy explain why there was such a high failure rate despite the implementation of his much-trumpeted in government schools.

In a statement here, the TDP chief sought to know whether the much-touted Nadu-Nedu programme had any impact on the performance of the students at all. The Chief Minister had been claiming sweeping changes for the better in the state due to the programme, he said. The success rate in the exams during the TDP regime ranged from 90 to 95% and it declined to 67% under the YSRC government. The deep slide reflected the pathetic condition of school education, he said.

He said absence of recruitment of teachers had led to severe shortage in the teaching staff numbers. Merger of schools and engagement of teachers in non-academic works had dealt a blow to the system itself.

The TDP chief demanded that the CM Jagan government should take responsibility for all the 2 lakh students who lost one full academic year. He asked people to realize the harm done to their wards under this government.

The general public should realize the great harm caused by irrelevant policies to the education system, he said. Appealing to SSC students not to resort to take any extreme step for their failure in the SSC examinations, he found fault with the system for the poor exam results.
