Former Jharkhand governor and National Democratic Alliance presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu will file his nomination on Friday, June 24. News media sources quoted Prime Minister Narendra Modi as saying today that she would nominate her name for the nomination, which would be backed by party national president JP Nadda.
Draupadi Murmu, who was elected NDA president, met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Amit Shah on Thursday, a day of intense activism for the tribal leader, who left Bhubaneswar in the morning before filing nomination papers for the post.
Naidu and Shah also extended their best wishes to Murmu. “The tribal community is very proud to announce her name. I am sure her administrative and public service experience will be good for the country, “Shaw tweeted.
Modi will be the first nominee. Several senior BJP leaders were also among the nominees, including union ministers and activists from other parties supporting her bid.
Murmu is expected to file her nomination papers on Friday, with Modi likely to be the first proposer in her nomination. With her support from the BJD, Murmu is likely to be elegantly elected as India's first tribal woman president.
Earlier, the All India Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram had said in a statement that Murmu's candidature was "historic" and appealed to her to be unanimously elected with a genuine focus on the all-round development of the lower castes in the country.
