MP Galla Jayadev says, Energy Conservation Bill a game-changer

MP Galla Jayadev stated that the Energy Conservation (Amendment) Bill-2022 is a victory for environmental sustainability.

He said the bill will help reduce fossil fuel-based energy consumption and carbon emissions, and more government support is needed to make renewable viable for the mobility and manufacturing industries.

Speaking in the Lok Sabha on Monday, he said the bill passed by the Lok Sabha on August 8 would provide legislative support to five points in the Prime Minister's Panchamrut - (1) sourcing 50% of electricity from non-fossil fuels, (2) reducing carbon emissions by 1 billion tones, (3) setting up 500 GW of non-fossil energy capacity. Doing so, (4) achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2070 and (5) reduce emissions.

In our progress towards net zero emissions, we need a hybrid model that includes a balanced energy mix of nuclear, hydrogen and biomass, rather than solar and wind, he said.
