Mass weddings were held with grandeur at the Sri Varaha Lakshmi Narasimhaswamy Temple on Korukonda Road on Sunday. As part of the programme, five couples were married in the main mandapam opposite the sanctum sanctorum.
Kalepu Simhachalam and Nageswara Rao, the representatives of Sri Varaha Lakshmi Nrisimha Swamy Trust, said that it is good for everyone to perform Kalyanam during Brahma Muhurtam, which comes once a year.
Gold mangalsutras, silver mattas, welfare cloths, talambras and Annaprasada of Swami were given free of charge to five married women. Srikiran Acharya, the chief priest of the temple, solemnly conducted the marriage ceremony of five couples amidst the chanting of Veda mantras at 8.15 am.
The celebrations were conducted under the auspices of the temple trustees. The trustees said that it has been decided to conduct mass free marriages every year on Brahma Muhurtam from now on.
