Manipur CM Biren Singh resigns amid violence in state

Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh on Sunday tendered his resignation to Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, at the Raj Bhavan. Singh’s resignation came hours after he returned from Delhi. Singh flew to Delhi Saturday evening, just days before the state’s upcoming assembly session, to meet Home Minister Amit Shah, where he was asked to resign after a two hour-long meeting, sources in the government said.
Soon after his arrival from Delhi, Biren chaired a meeting with the party MLAs at the CM Secretariat Imphal, and later met the Governor to submit his resignation, accompanied by legislators belonging to the BJP and NPF. State BJP president A Sarda Devi and BJP Lok Sabha MP and North East in-charge Sambit Patra BJP was also present.
