The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) has launched a pro-India social media campaign to counter the 'India Out' campaign in the country. The campaign, dubbed "the rest", "calls for action without severing ties with India," said Mohammed Nasheedis, the Maldivian speaker.

"The small number of participants in the India out Campaign is proof that the Maldives does not support this," he added. Nasheed said some time ago that Chinese projects in the Maldives were a debt burden on the government and that it was a mistake to accept the Belt and Road Initiative.

Meanwhile, the Maldivian government thanked India for donations of the Covid vaccine, medical treatment received by the Maldives here and for many projects being undertaken under the Line of Credit Support.

"India has become a major election issue in the Maldives, where elections are scheduled for next year. The opposition, led by Abdullah Yameen of the pro-China Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), launched the India Out campaign, while the ruling party expressed solidarity with India. India is a long-standing traditional ally of the Maldives,”said a political analyst from Male.
