At least 13 passengers were mowed down by the Karnataka Express in Maharashtra’s Jalgaon district after panic erupted due to a fire rumor on the Lucknow-CSMT Pushpak Express.
Officials said the incident took place at around 5 pm near Pachora between Maheji and Pardhane stations. The passengers, mostly from the general compartment, jumped onto the adjacent tracks due to fear, only to be hit by the oncoming train. The death toll in the Jalgaon train accident has rose to 13 on Thursday, with police confirming that eight of the victims have been identified. Jalgaon Guardian Minister Gulabrao Patil confirmed that rumours of fire were unfounded, as the Railways verified no fire had occurred.
