External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that China's disregard of border agreements is clearly affecting India-China bilateral relations.
Right now, we are facing a very difficult phase because we have agreements with China dating back to the 1990s, which prohibit the bringing of heavy troops in the border area. They have ignored it.
You know what happened in Galvan Valley, Jaishankar said at an event in Sao Paulo, Brazil on Sunday, highlighting the ongoing standoff with China.
Eastern Ladakh has been a flash point between India and China for some time now. The two sides have so far held 16 rounds of Corps Commander-level talks to break the logjam that erupted into violence on May 5, 2020.
Jaishankar, who is on his first visit to Brazil as EAM, added, "That issue has not been resolved and it clearly has a shadow." "They are our neighbors. Everyone wants to get along with their neighbor. Both in personal life and country wise. But everyone wants to get along on reasonable terms. I have to respect you. You have to respect me," he said.
"So from our perspective, we have made it very clear that we have to build a relationship and have mutual respect. Everyone has their own interests and we have to be sensitive to other people's concerns for the relationship to build," he added.
