Two weeks after quitting the Congress, Patidhar leader Hardhik Patel formally joined the BJP on Thursday, saying it was his duty to become a “soldier” of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to work for “national interest”.

After joining the BJP, Hardik Patel claimed that there are many more Congress leaders who will soon join the BJP, during the programme Hardik Patel praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and called him the pride of the country.

In his resignation letter to Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi, Hardik sharply criticized the party leadership, saying it had "only played the role of roadblock" on some key issues in the country and had "degenerated to the level of simply opposing everything".

"When I was in Congress, even though I was the Congress office bearer, I supported Prime Minister Narendra Modi's work on a strong decision like Article 370 repeal, construction of Ram Mandir, GST or NRC," he said.

On Thursday morning Hardik Patel announced that he will be starting a new chapter in his life, working as a small solider under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He changed his tone after publicly airing several criticisms of the Congress last month. He joined the party in 2019 and in July 2020 was appointed Working President for its state unit. Resigned it on May 18th.
