Greeting pouring in for Murmu

Politicians on Monday congratulated Draupadi Murmu on her swearing-in as the country's 15th president, which Prime Minister Narendra Modi described as a watershed moment for India, especially for the poor and downtrodden.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh said it was a special day in the history of the Republic of India and expressed confidence that her rich legislative and administrative experience would benefit the country.

Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister P Chidambaram said that a woman born in a tribal family in a remote village in Odisha has ascended to the post of President as a proud moment in Indian history.

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Sharad Pawar congratulated Murmu and expressed confidence that she would stick to upholding India's democratic constitution and laws and make the country prouder during her tenure.
