The district administration has alerted the people of the low-lying areas in Tullur Mangalagiri, Duddirala and Kollipara mandals of Guntur district in view of the increasing inflow of the Krishna River. The inflow of Krishna River is increasing due to rains upstream of Prakasam barrage.

At present, 21 thousand cusecs of flood water is reaching the Krishna barrage while 18 thousand cusecs is being released downstream, said the irrigation officials.

Joint Collector G. Rajakumari ordered the officials of Panchayat Revenue, R&B, Police and other departments to take measures to prevent any untoward incidents. Her condition was reviewed.

A control room has been set up in the Collectorate to help the poor. People can contact 0863-2234014 for assistance. Parents are asked not to send their children near water bodies and drains.

Meanwhile, the incessant rains for the last two days are beneficial for all the crops in the district. Due to deficit rainfall, paddy cultivation in Guntur West region of Tenali Division is yet to recover. Incessant rains help the farmers to speed up their paddy planting. Farmers follow the method of direct sowing of paddy.

Similarly, rain is useful for commercial crops such as pepper, cotton and others in the district. Due to the incessant rains, Guntur city is drenched and the rain water stagnates on the roads causing inconvenience to motorists and pedestrians.
