The State government has lifted suspension on senior IPS officer and former Intelligence chief AB Venkateswara Rao. Following the Supreme Court order, the government issued an order on Wednesday, revoking the suspension of Rao and directed him to report to the General Administration Department (GAD) for posting.
Rao, a 1989 batch IPS officer, was placed under suspension on February 8, 2020, on the grounds of serious misconduct in the process of procurement of security equipment while he was working as the Additional Director General of Police, Intelligence. He was suspended under Rule 3(1) of the All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969.
As per the recommendations of review committee the suspension of ABV was reviewed by the competent authority and it was extended from the time to time. Meanwhile the Supreme Court dismissed the special leave petition of the state government and revoked the suspension of ABV with effect from February 8 this year.
He said all allegations leveled against him regarding the procurement by the intelligence department and charges of treason against him were far from the truth. I have worked for 30 years in the service of the nation. Allegations have been made that I resorted to treason and shared secrets with other countries. None of the allegations made against me was made part of the charge memo issued against me," he had said.
