DCP Vishal Gunni launches 2k walk under SAFE

Deputy Commissioner of Police Vishal Gunni will launch the 2K walk under the auspices of Step Ahead for Equality (SAFE) to bring gender equality in the society on Friday at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation Stadium here, said Gullapally Jyotsna, President of SAFE.

Addressing a press conference organized here on Wednesday, Jyotsna said that even after 75 years of independence, gender discrimination is being practiced in various forms. Crimes against women have been steadily increasing over the last few years.

Efforts are being made to bring women back to the kitchen. The 2K walks aims to create awareness among men and women, students and youth about the need for gender equality,' she said.

Stating that the padayatra is being held with the theme 'Protection of Women as a Social Responsibility', Jyotsna urged that gender equality should start at home. She said the march will end with a meeting at Siddhartha Auditorium via Mahatma Gandhi Road and Tickle Road.

She said that NTR District Collector Dilli Rao and other dignitaries will address the meeting in the auditorium. So far more than 2,000 men and women have registered their names online to participate in the walk.

She appealed to the citizens to participate in the padayatra to show solidarity with the ongoing movement to bring gender equality in the society. G Vani, Dr Neeraja, CH Radha Kumari, A Ratna Lakshmi, Karam Kaur, Kodali Kavitha, Y Padma, Seetha Srinivas and others participated
