Curfew was imposed in 10 police station areas of Jodhpur in Rajasthan and mobile internet services were suspended Tuesday as communal tension mounted in the city, hours after two communities clashed late Monday night over the hoisting of a flag on Eid.

At least 16 persons, including four policemen were injured in violent clashes on Monday night over putting up a religious flag a head of Eid. Jodhpur is the hometown of Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot who appealed to the public to maintain peace and chaired a high-level meeting after cancelling events planned for his birthday Tuesday.

A minor spat over putting up a religious flag took an ugly turn on Monday night when a member of one community was beaten up while he was vide graphing the act of flag installation by another community. This triggered stone pelting by members of both the communities. To control the situation police were sent to the spot.
