Calls for a boycott of trade and tourism with Turkey and Azerbaijan have triggered a fresh war of words between the Congress and the BJP, with the Congress urging the Prime Minister and the External Affairs Minister to immediately clarify the government's stance.

Congress leader Pawan Khera, responding to the BJP’s criticism over the party leaderss' evasive response to a question on boycott calls, said that decisions on maintaining or severing ties with any country should be made by the government, not the opposition.
