CM-PM discussion on Polavaram project, sanction of 12 medical colleges

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy on Thursday called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of presidential and vice-President elections scheduled in July.

He requested Prime Minister Modi to approve the revised cost estimates for the Polavaram project and to provide the Rehabilitation and Rehabilitation (R&R) package to displaced families through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) for transparency. Apart from this, Jagan will raise various issues related to the state, including revenue deficit compensation, NREGS and sanction of additional medical colleges.

In regard to Polavaram, he urged the Prime Minister to approve the revised cost estimates of Rs 55,548.87 crore as per 2017-18 price index as the Technical Advisory Committee had already approved.

"The construction cost of the Polavaram project should be reimbursed taking into account the total project cost and not component-wise separately. The state government has not paid the Rs 905.51 crore it spent on its own funds due to the sanctions," the statement said.

Jagan asked Modi to release Rs 32,625 crore for various pending bills under the 10th Pay Amendment Commission, including a financial package to restructure DISCOMs, senior citizen pensions and farmers' debt waiver. The Chief Minister Jagan also sought higher allocation of food grains under the National Food Security Act, as well as under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana. He also sought approvals for setting up another 12 Medical Colleges in the state to cater to 26 districts.

Among other things, approvals have been sought for allocating beach sand minerals to APMDC, which could attract an investment of Rs 20,000 crore. Of the 16 permits, 14 are pending, he said in a statement.
