Chaturmasya Deeksha of Tirumala Pedda Jeiyangar and Tirumala Chinajieyangar Swamiji started on Sunday. On Wednesday, the celebrations started from Peeda Jiyyangar Mutt in Tirumala.

Pedda Jeeyar Swami, along with Chinna Jeeyar Swami and other disciples, followed an age-old tradition and first offered prayers to Sri Bhu Varaha Swami, Swami Pushkarini before proceeding to the Tirumala temple.

Both were welcomed by TTD EO KS Jawahar Reddy and Additional EO AV Dharma Reddy at the main gate of Tirumala temple. After offering prayers to Sri Venkateswara Swamy, the senior pontiff was presented with a Melchat cloth while the junior pontiff was presented with a noolchat cloth as part of the "Cloth Drapery Honor".

Chaturmasya Diksha is an auspicious four-month fasting period that begins the day after the full moon of Ashadha and ends on the full moon of Kartika Shukla. During this period the months of Shravana, Bhadrapada, Ashvayuja and Kartika come.

These four months are said to be very pleasing to Lord Vishnu. Spiritual persons strongly believe that charity, vrata, japa and homa performed during these four months yield innumerable merits compared to the noble deeds performed during other months of the year.

Tirumala Devasthanam Deputy EO Ramesh Babu, VGO Balireddy, AVSO Surendra and others participated.
