Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy lauded the authorities for implementing proper rescue and relief measures following the unprecedented flooding of the Godavari River as the water level remained above the first warning signal for 20 days.
The Chief Minister said that the dedication and cooperation of the officials was possible only with the change in the administrative system. Earlier there were two Collectors for both the Godavari districts, but now with the reorganization of the district’s the number of Collectors in the region has increased to six.
Alluri Sitarama Raju (ASR) District Collector Sumeet Kumar stayed in the flood affected area for 20 days to monitor the implementation of relief measures in four mandals. Jagan said that the entire administration has got a new look with JCs, other officers, new secretariat system and one volunteer for every 50 houses in the village.
People were asked to see how much change has come in the system. The Chief Minister visited the flood victims in Koyuguru and Chatti villages of Chintoor mandal. Before addressing the public meeting, the Chief Minister called the flood affected people and women to the stage.
The security personnel and leaders on the stage were sent back and the locals stood in front. Jagan asked the locals whether they have received ration, palm oil, rice and financial assistance of Rs.2 thousand. He praised the authorities for supporting every victim's family.
In the past, leaders used to come during floods and wherever mistakes were made, the officials neglected their duties and were suspended and left. He said that this is not the style of YSRCP government; they will be able to work properly by empowering the officials.
The Chief Minister ordered that the calculation of the damages caused by the Godavari floods should be completed within 14 days and all the details should be displayed on the notice boards. The flood victims went through the lists on the notice boards and did not find their names.
