Former India coach Ravi Shastri believes the T20 format should be limited to the World Cups - every two years - to create a bigger window for franchise-based T20 tournaments such as the Indian Premier League (IPL).
The veteran all-rounder coached India to the 2021 T20 World Cup, described the bilateral series of the T20I as "nobody remembers".
"Yes, of course, there are a lot of bilateral issues going on in T20 cricket," Shastri said on ESPNcricinfo's Runorder program. "
I said (before), even when I was the Indian coach, I saw this happening before my eyes. It has to go the way of football, here, in T20 cricket; you just play the World Cup. Bilateral tournaments - no one remembers, "He added.
"I do not remember a single game as an Indian coach in the last six-seven years except the World Cup. A team wins the World Cup, they remember it. Unfortunately, we did not, so I do not remember. Remember that too.
Where I come from: You play franchise cricket around the world; Every country is allowed to have their own franchise cricket, that is their domestic cricket, and then, every two years, you come and play in the World Cup, ”he said.
