25 dead and 6.5 lakh homeless in Assam Floods

Assam floods witnessed surge in death toll as it rose to 25 and 6.5 lakh people remained affected across 22 districts as of Tuesday. Assam state disaster management authority (ASDMA) informed about one person going missing in floodwaters of Silchar, according to daily flood report.
With this, the total number of people losing their lives in this year's flood and landslides has gone up to 25 across the State, it said on Monday. ASDMA said more than 6,50,400 people are hit due to floods in Barpeta, Cachar, Darrang, Dhubri, Dibrugarh, Dima Hasao, Goalpara, Golaghat, Hailakandi, Hojai, Jorhat, Kamrup, Kamrup Metropolitan, Karbi Anglong West, Karimganj, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Morigaon, Nagaon, Nalbari, Sonitpur and Udalguri districts.
The weather department predicts light rainfall in Chandigarh on Tuesday. The Tricity received 11.5 millimeters rain along with gusty wind of 40-50 kmph bringing the mercury down up to 30.7 degrees Celsius (maximum temperature) in the last 24 hours. The city also experienced light rain around 3:30 am, after lightning and thunderstorm.
Till Saturday, over 7.2 lakh people were affected by the deluge across 22 districts in the State.
