Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan on Sunday said that the demands of IIIT-Basara students are genuine and need to be addressed within a time frame, saying that he has come to provide moral support to the students.
The Governor reached Basara at 7 am and was welcomed by Additional Collector P Rambabu, RGUKT Pro Vice Chancellor V Venkataramana, Director Satish Kumar and others. Collector Mushraf Ali Farooqui and SP CH Praveen Kumar have taken leave.
After visiting the Tamilisai Basara temple and offering prayers to the Principal, they reached the campus. After having breakfast with the students in the hostel mess, Tamilisai visited the girls' and boys' dormitories and canteens and inspected each room and inquired about the well-being of the students.
Speaking to the media in front of the campus gate as the press was not allowed inside, Tamilisai said that the demands of the students are real. She revealed that the students brought to her notice that they were facing difficulties due to the restrictions imposed by the police.
“Many students told me that they come from poor backgrounds and hope for a bright future. They have not been given laptops since 2017. They should be provided with clean food; There is shortage of faculty and books in the library,” the governor said.
Stating that problems are inevitable as the varsity has around 8,500 students, Tamilisai said her comments should be seen as constructive criticism and there was no intention in it. She said that the Vice-Chancellor had taken charge recently and needed time to resolve all the issues. Later, she reached the campus of Telangana University in Nizamabad where she interacted with the faculty, non-teaching staff and students.
