Somu Verraju fires on AP govt on rehabilitation in flood hit areas

BJP state president Somu Verraju said that hundreds of villages in the flood affected areas are still far away from relief measures and the state government has miserably failed to undertake relief and rehabilitation in those areas.

Speaking to the media here on Monday, the BJP state chief alleged that the government had failed to predict the floods despite early warnings due to technology, resulting in thousands of people being displaced and dozens of island villages and inundated areas still suffering. The government could not distribute drinking water and food.

He said that although funds have been sanctioned by the Center under disaster management, relief measures such as supply of basic necessities like rice, pulses and oil to the people in flooded areas have not been properly undertaken.

He said that due to the lack of proper planning, relief and rehabilitation activities for the victims are going slow and the affected people are complaining openly to Minister Vishwarup who visited the flood affected areas in Konaseema. Government's failure to help flood victims.

He said that two teams of BJP leaders are visiting the affected areas and are taking steps to gather feedback on relief and rehabilitation measures to submit a report on the immediate steps to be taken to help the victims.

The BJP leader responded to the statement of the Minister of Religion Satyanarayana that government funds are not being allocated to temples and that state funds should not be spent on other religions and suggested that Chief Minister YS Jagan should be brought to the notice wants to stop funding for the construction of churches in the districts.

Expressing strong objection to the government's move to divert funds from temples with an annual income of less than two lakhs, he said it was against the Supreme Court's verdict and said the BJP would not allow poor temples to be saved.
