Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi said that there are conspiracies going on to discredit Gujarat and prevent investment from own state.

Modi was addressing a rally after inaugurating and laying the foundation stone of development works in Bhuj district on Sunday ahead of the Gujarat elections later this year.

Modi said that there are conspiracies going on in the country and in the world to defame Gujarat, and they have repeatedly tried to stop the investments coming to the state, but the state has chosen a new path of progress.

"After the 2001 Kutch earthquake, in the midst of devastation, I talked about the redevelopment of Kutch and we worked hard for it. Today, you are seeing the results," he said.

"Many people said Kutch would never recover from the earthquake, but the people there have changed the scenario," he said. "You can see many flaws in India now, but I can clearly see that India will become a developed country by 2047," Modi said.

Earlier, Modi held a road show in Bhuj town of Kutch district on the second day of his visit to the state, where assembly polls will be held later this year.

Thousands of people from Bhuj and surrounding areas gathered on both sides of the road to welcome Modi in the three-km road show between Hill Garden Circle and District Industries Center in Bhuj town.
