PM says, Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav turning into mass movement

Addressing the 91st edition of his monthly radio program 'Mann Ki Baat', Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said that 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' is becoming a mass movement and people from all walks of life are participating in the campaign.

The Prime Minister paid tribute to revolutionary Udham Singh on his 82nd death anniversary and to all other freedom fighters who sacrificed themselves for the nation.

"This time Mann Ki Baat is special as we are now going to celebrate the 75th Independence Day. We are all going to witness a wonderful and historic moment. God has blessed us with this great fortune.

Imagine if we were born in the time of slaves. How intense was it? On 31st July, we all pay tribute to Shaheed Udham Singh Ji and all other freedom fighters who sacrificed themselves for the country. I am happy that 'Azaadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav' has become a public movement.

People from all walks of life and people from all sections of the society are participating in various activities related to this," PM Modi said.

"Under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, August 13 to August 15, 'Har Ghar Tiranga' movement will be organized, you should be a part of this movement and unfurl the national flag on your house," he said. He also gave examples of such events celebrated in Meghalaya and Karnataka.

"In Meghalaya, people celebrated Tiroth Singh's services to the freedom struggle through a beautiful carnival. Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav Jan is becoming a concern. In Karnataka, unprecedented celebrations began with Amrita Bharti Kannada Rati, a tribute to the freedom fighters of the region," he said.

Prime Minister Modi said that a new program called Azadi Ki Rail Gadi and Railway Station was also launched, adding that railways played a role in the freedom struggle.
