Social Welfare Minister Merugu Nagarjuna said that in view of the huge demand for seats in scheduled caste gurukula schools, a seat should be provided to every student belonging to scheduled castes.
After the Minister reviewed the performance of Social Welfare Department at the Secretariat on Wednesday, the Minister directed the officials to have continuous monitoring in the hostels of SC students and to focus more on the tenth class students.
Despite the demand for seats in SC Gurukul schools, admissions are limited to 640 seats sanctioned in the schools.
The minister warned the officials to ensure that there are no vacancies in any school while giving admissions to the students. They should also ensure that there are no vacancies of teaching posts in proportion to the ratio of students.

The Deputy Directors were directed to make unannounced visits to the hostels and 24-hour monitoring of the hostels. It would be good if the hostel welfare officers stay in the hostels and monitor the students' studies.
Tutors can be hired to give special attention to class 9 students before class 10 lessons. The minister directed the state level officials to visit the SC hostels and understand and solve the problems.
