The fate of the Telugu College in Rajamahendravaram, which has done justice to the title of 'Cultural Capital', is in doubt.

Locals doubt that the Sahitya Peetha of this college, which has been in a dilapidated condition for many years without any development, may be moved to another area. Doubts about the existence of the college arose throughout Nannaya Mahakavi's millennium celebrations, perplexing linguists and literary scholars.

Potti Sriramulu Telugu College (PSTU), one of the many Indian language universities in India, was founded by former chief minister late NT Rama Rao, a lover of Telugu. It was established on December 2, 1985 as Telugu College. With headquarters at Hyderabad and campuses at Srisailam and Rajahmundry through an Act of Acts by the then joint Andhra Pradesh State Legislature. Later named after the immortal Potti Sriramulu. College of Folks and Tribal Lore was established in 1994 under the college at Warangal.

It is known that Rajahmundry became the center of East Godavari district after the formation of new districts. A District Collectorate has been set up in the NACC which is being constructed at the Bommur site. All the work sites in the district should be at one place in an area of 20 acres. Collectorate in Rajahmundry has been set up in 9 acres. Then the Telugu College Sahitya Peetha in 16 acres.

These two areas combined will develop into 25 acres. There is a marketing campaign going on that the idea of the Collectorate will be unified and the work places of the districts will be set up at one place.

A team of district officials and a team of college officials inspected the premises of Telugu College Sahitya Peetham twice and recorded the dimensions and details of the buildings.

The central government has directed the higher education board officials to look into the proposal to shift the Sahitya Peetha of Telugu College to Padmavathi College in Tirupati or Visakhapatnam.

Although nothing has been said officially, it is speculated that something is happening based on the observations going on in the Sahitya Peetha. YSRCP leaders Jakkampudi Vijayalakshmi and TK Visveswara Reddy warned that they will not tolerate moving the Sahitya Peetha is proof of speculation. Visveshwara Reddy is competent go on a hunger strike to prevent the Sahitya Peetha from going to waste. On this, Jakkampudi Vijayalakshmi, Kalagautami consultant PVB Sanjeeva Rao and others formed a wrestling committee.

People recall that Tobacco Public Sale Centre, Archives Centre, Japanese Delta Irrigation Workplace, Gautami Vidyapeeth (Oriental Diploma School) etc. were earlier shifted from Rajamahendravaram. Many people fear that if they don't raise their voice, the pedestal of literature will also be moved.

In this regard, MP Bharatram said that he will definitely not allow the relocation of the Sahitya Peetha of Telugu College from here. Apart from that, the chief minister will be asked to make Sahitya Peetha a full-fledged Telugu college here.
