In a latest development, RBI decided to make some changes in the printing of currency. A host of new security features are expected to be added when the RBI goes about printing fresh banknotes.
For example, Rs.100, Rs. 200, Rs. 500 and Rs. Whenever new suppliers are awarded contracts for 2,000 currency notes, four types of security threads (24,70,000 km long) are introduced instead of one.
Other security features - dyeing ink (24,000 kg and 4,600 kg) for high and medium denomination notes, foil patch (8,000 million pieces), three types of security fibers (47,000 kg), micro-perforations (once technology transfer), paper and ink -Based tangents (25,130 kg, microscopic physical and chemical markers) are also "strengthened" to counterfeit currency notes.
Some of the foreign companies that have submitted their bids for the security thread feature are Optaglio Limited (Czech Republic), Federigoni Spa (Italy), Papierofabric Louisenthal GmBH (Germany), Hugh Foilen GmbH (Austria) and Crane (Inc.). GleitsMann Security Inks (Germany) and SICPA SA (Switzerland) are among the foreign companies bidding for the color-shifting ink feature.

Bids were opened on September 1, 2017. But for various reasons the physical inspections of foreign suppliers did not take place.
