Depression in Bay likely in 48hrs, alert in north coast, heavy rains expected

The IMD has warned that heavy to very heavy rains are likely to occur in the north coastal districts due to the influence of the low pressure over the northwest and west central Bay of Bengal, Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh coasts. The AP State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA) has alerted the people of North Coast districts that there is a possibility of becoming a low pressure in the next 48 hours.

Villages and towns along rivers and streams downstream of various projects have also been alerted that there is a possibility of heavy inflow. Due to recent heavy rains in the upper catchment areas of various rivers and streams in the state, especially in the Godavari and Krishna basins and the north coastal districts, projects have become waterlogged and excess water is being released downstream.

Due to the influence of low pressure, heavy rains occurred in Alluri Sitamaraju, Dr. BR Ambedkar Konaseema, Nandyala, Prakasam, Bapatla, NTR, Krishna, Palnadu, Nellore and districts between 8:30 AM and 10 PM on Sunday. Visakhapatnam and Srikakulam districts.

Gangavaram of ASR district recorded the highest rainfall of 12.7 cm, while Mallikapuram of Dr. BR Ambedkar Konaseema district recorded 9.6 cm of rainfall.

In the 24 hours that ended at 8:30 am on Sunday, heavy rains occurred at one or two places in Srikakulam and West Godavari districts of North Coast AP. On the other hand, light to moderate rains are likely to occur at many places in the coastal districts and at many places in Rayalaseema. The highest rainfall was 8 cm in Koyyalagudem of Eluru district, 6 cm in Tiruvuru of NTR district and 5 cm in Chodavaram.
