Shiv Sena Lok Sabha MP Rahul Shewale said on Tuesday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Uddhav Thackeray met for over an hour in June 2021, where both parties decided to put aside their differences and reconcile in Maharashtra.
However, Shewale claimed that suspension of 12 BJP MLAs during the monsoon session of the Maharashtra Assembly spoiled the plan.
Along with Shewale, 11 other Sena MPs joined Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde's camp in a press conference in New Delhi.
Shewale stated that several meetings were held with Uddhav on re-alliance with BJP.
“Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut witnessed the meetings. We told Uddhav that in 2019, Sena MPs won the election in alliance with BJP. So, if Shiv Sena supports BJP's candidate for the presidential election, we have asked that the two parties will be given a chance to re-align,'' said Shewale.
“During a meeting, Uddhav Thackeray told us that he met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in June 2021, where they discussed an alliance with the BJP and the Sena. But in July, 12 BJP MLAs were suspended from the monsoon sessions of the Maharashtra Assembly for misbehaving in the House. That broke the alliance discussion. BJP leaders complained that Sena suspended 12 MLAs.
According to Uddhav's instructions, Shewale took the initiative to talk to the BJP again.
BJP leadership is positive. But Uddhav Thackeray started dragging his feet for the alliance. We tried to pursue Uddhav, but did not get a positive response. Hence, all Lok Sabha MPs belonging to Shiv Sena decided to come together with Eknath Shinde who formed the government with BJP. We want to ally only with BJP.
