World Blood Donor Day takes place on 14 June each year. The Day was created to a) raise global awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products for transfusion b) highlight the critical contribution voluntary, unpaid blood donors make to national health systems.
The best way to celebrate World Blood Donor Day is to go out and donate blood. There is a strong need for all kinds of blood and rarely turns around. Only one contribution now and then can help save lives, so go there and give.
Finding a clinic in your local area is surprisingly easy. Usually, teams of doctors set up donor rooms where you can go with other volunteers to donate blood. Before you make a donation, you should take a quiz to find out if you are eligible. After that, a nurse will test your blood to make sure it is safe to withdraw large amounts. Then, they place the needle in your hand and pull around a pint.
If you are unable to donate blood for any reason, it will not prevent you from participating in World Blood Donor Day. There is so much more you can do. For example, you can mark this occasion by updating your social media profile pictures to celebrate the event.
Symbols and images have a huge impact. If you live in an area where more blood is needed, you can also go to Canvassing on behalf of your local blood donation group. Posting pamphlets by people in the local community often encourages people to come forward.
Therefore, World Blood Donor Day is one of the most important public health events on the calendar. It confirms the efforts of those early blood transfusion pioneers and encourages people to go out and give.
