The White House has announced that President Joe Biden will make his first visit to the Middle East next month. He will be touring Israel, the West Bank and Saudi Arabia.
The decision to call on Saudi leaders during the July 13 to July 16, 2022 tour came after Biden, as the Democratic presidential candidate, printed the kingdom as "Pariya" because of its human rights record and pledged to reconsider U.S.-Saudi relations.
According to a senior official, Biden is planning to meet with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the real ruler of the kingdom. This happened after President Biden, after taking office, announced that he would stay away from direct engagement with the prince and instead focus on his engagement with King Salman.
The decision comes at a time when prices at the gas pump are skyrocketing, growing concerns about Iran's nuclear program and perpetual concern that China is expanding its global footprint.
