While India has refrained from criticizing the West over Russia's invasion of Ukraine, New Delhi has reached out to Ukraine with humanitarian assistance. The country is now seeking India's assistance in its reconstruction efforts after the end of the war.

"We are at the end because of the loss of life and property, but the Russians have put up a tough fight to dispel their speculation that they will win in a few days. However, after the war, we will help our friends like India to rebuild our country and become our guarantors,”Ukraine's Ambassador to India Igor Polikha told.

India has vast experience in creating infrastructure and hopes that Ukraine will partner with them in reconstruction after the end of the war. "We thank India for providing us with humanitarian assistance. About 240 tones of humanitarian aid was received from India, mainly medicines,”Polikha added.

There are several Indian pharma companies in Europe and they collectively stand in support of war-torn Ukraine. About $ 8 million in additional aid was raised and sent to Ukraine through them.

The ambassador said his country understands India's decision not to go completely into criticizing Russia.

"India has not named the perpetrators of the Bucha massacre and has called for an independent inquiry. However, Ukrainians are happy that former Supreme Court Justice Dalveer Bhandari (one of the 15 sitting judges of the UN Court) voted against Russia, ”Polikha said.

Ukraine hopes that countries like India will put pressure on Russia to end the ongoing conflict.
