The TS government is planning to expand fish markets in the districts so that they are sold in hygienic conditions, Minister for Animal Husbandry Talasani Srinivas Yadav said while inaugurating the AquaEx-2018 on Thursday evening.

State Chief Secretary Somesh Kumar has instructed officials to prepare a blue print on the development of aquaculture in 5 lakh acres in coming three years in the State. The Chief Secretary while reviewing the aquaculture development said that it will benefit the farmers by increasing their income 3 to 4 times.

The Minister also advised people to set aside differences of caste and community. “Do not let petty quarrels disrupt your path to economic progress,” he stated.

The three-day event is being organized by the Society for Indian Fisheries and Aquaculture for the first time in the city. Aimed at boosting aquaculture in the State, the expo is showcasing best practices as well as technical know-how from across the world.

Somesh said that aquaculture clusters will be developed in 7 districts i.e., Nizamabad, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Khammam, Gadwal, Karimnagar and Peddapalli. District level committees headed by District Collectors will take initiative to sensitise farmers about profitable aquaculture. Suitable aqua seed farms will be developed at regional level and also promote shrimp farming along with fish farming.
