Mumbai experiences Heavy rains

Heavy rain has been lashing Mumbai since Monday night, inundating parts of the city and disrupting traffic movement. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast moderate to heavy rains in the city and its suburbs in the next 24 hours, with very heavy rains expected in some areas Also, heavy rains are expected in Mumbai on July 7 and 8, while a red alert has been issued for Ratnagiri & Rayagada.

Heavy to very heavy rains are likely here and there in next 5 days in Maharashtra. Good rains are also expected in the ghat areas of the state. Heavy rains lashed Mumbai and its surrounding areas on Tuesday morning.

The city recorded an average rainfall of 95.81 mm during the 24-hour period ending 8 am on Tuesday, while eastern and western suburbs recorded 115.09 mm and 116.73 mm respectively, officials said.

Thane, Palghar, Raigarh, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg along with Kolhapur district administration has been alerted. The CMO said that NDRF teams have been deployed. 11 teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) have been deployed in various districts of Maharashtra in response to the flood situation.

Landslides occurred in Mumbai's Ghatkopar and Panchsheel Nagar amid heavy rains. Fire engines have reached there. The Mumbai Fire Brigade said no casualties have been reported so far. A 16-feet tall security wall in Mumbra area collapsed on Monday due to incessant rains in Thane.

17 families of Anil Bhagat Chawl were temporarily shifted to the Thane Municipal Corporation School. Trains are running on all corridors of Western Railway and Central Railway. Local train services are running late by 10-15 minutes in some parts of Central Railway routes. Trains are running on all corridors. Some trains are running late on the main and harbor lines.
