Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said India and Nepal relations are strong and unshakeable like the Himalayas. The Prime minister, who is in the Himalayan nation for a day’s visit at the invitation of his Nepalese counterpart Sher Singh Deuba, said the “ever-strengthening" friendship between the two countries will benefit the entire humanity in the emerging global situation.

He also laid the foundation stone for the Indian international Centre for Buddhist Culture and heritage besides visiting the famous Mayadevi temple along with his Nepal counterpart Sher Bahadur Deuba. Both sides signed six pacts. Once completed, the Centre will host pilgrims and tourists, with world-class facilities including prayer halls, meditation centers, library, exhibition hall, cafeteria, offices and other amenities. It will be the first "Net Zero Emission" building in Nepal.

The Modi government raised the issue at the highest level with Nepal. As a result of constant follow-up from both sides, in November 2021, the Lumbini Development Trust allocated a plot (80meters X 80meters) to the IBC to build a project.

For long China has sought to develop offered $3 billion to make it a World Peace City through the Asia Pacific Exchange and cooperation Foundation. The two PMs discussed a broad overview of bilateral relationship to enhance the close and cordial ties between the two countries.

But China’s interest in Nepal through its Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) is making people wary.
