Congress blames Delhi Police of brutality against leaders

The Congress on Monday used the questioning of Rahul Gandhi in the Enforcement Directorate (ED) case as a pretext to turn the United Front into a show of force. Ranks took to the streets along with the party senior leadership in support of Rahul. The Congress has alleged that Delhi police attacked party leaders during the protest.

Congress Working Committee members, MPs and party general secretaries, including Ashok Gehlot, Casey Venugopal, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Bhupesh Baghel, Jairam Ramesh, Karthi Chidambaram, Sachin Pilot, Mukul Wasnik and Randeep Singh Surjewala, marched on Akbar Road and took part in the 'unity march'. To the ED office despite the restraining orders of the Delhi Police. Similar protests took place outside ED offices in the states.

Huge security arrangements have been made around the Congress headquarters and surroundings to prevent party workers from going along with Rahul. Amidst the slogans of the workers, the Wayanad MP along with his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra reached the ED office along with a large convoy. Rahul reached the entire office in view of the barricades set up to block the Congress leaders.

Subsequently, several prominent leaders including Mallikarjun Kharge, Baghel, Surjewala, Venugopal and Chaudhary were arrested. A large number of workers were also taken into preventive custody for violating Section 144 CrPC, banning a meeting of more than four persons and imposing it in Central Delhi.

Surjewala alleged that there was a 'murderous attack' on Venugopal after that. "Delhi Congress in-charge, MP Shaktisingh Gohil was beaten with sticks.
