CJI says, Raavi Sastry’s work had immense influence on me

Chief Justice of India NV Ramana said here on Sunday that Rachakonda Viswanatha Shastri is a great writer but his Telugu background is an obstacle for him to gain global recognition.

CJI who was the chief guest at the birth anniversary celebrations of Ravi Shastri popularly known as Rachakonda Vishwanatha Shastri organized here by the Visakha Rasajna Vedika Although he did not interact much with Ravi Shastri in his childhood, his writings, , had an immense influence on him.

Most of Ravi Shastri's works bring out the struggles of the common people and the lower and middle classes. "Ravi Shastri used to say that even though he did not read much of law, he studied society a lot," recalled the CJI, who, like Ravi Shastri, also had a keen eye for social issues.

During his lectures in other states, the CJI said he tried to explain the implications of Ravi Shastri's quotes. However, he states that he cannot go beyond a few lines as the author's quotes have immense depth and are tough to decipher in detail.

The Chief Justice of India appealed to the literati to translate Ravi Shastri's works into English and Hindi so that they reach a larger number of readers. CJI also said that he will bear all the expenses related to the translation works.

The CJI said that those who want to know the judiciary and its shortcomings should read 'Aru Sara Katha' written by Ravi Shastri. "Ravi Shastri has provided legal aid to thousands of people without charging any fee.

It reflects his love for the common man and his desire to reach out to them in the best possible way,” recalled the CJI.

Besides taking Telugu writing to the next level, Ravi Shastri has focused on maintaining the dialect in his writings, CJI said. "People should respect their mother tongue and encourage the next generation to read, write and speak in Telugu," said the CJI, recommending that Ravi Shastri's quotes be made more prominent in Visakhapatnam.
