Education Minister Botcha Satyanarayana said there was no truth in the news that the number of beneficiaries under the Amma Vodi scheme had been reduced.
After launching several development works in Vijayanagar on Thursday, Botcha said the Amma Vodi scheme would be applicable to students with 75 per cent attendance. This does not apply if the child is not sent to school regularly.
Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and former Education Minister A Suresh have repeatedly made the same point. There is nothing new in that. "Now, as an education minister, I reiterate the same," Botcha said.
“How can we offer the benefit of Amma Vodi to students with low attendance? We are implementing this scheme so that every single student can study without dropping out. Eligibility criteria were clearly stated when Amma Vodi launched the scheme,”Botcha clarified.
During Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's visit to Srikakulam on June 27, Amma Vodi will deposit the third installment in the beneficiaries' bank accounts.
Previously only 32% of students were enrolled in public schools. Student enrollment in public schools has risen to 65 per cent since the YSSRCP came to power in the state. "We urge all parents to use the Amma Vodi scheme to provide quality education to their children.
Send your child to school for a brighter future. The state government is committed to providing financial assistance to poor parents to provide quality education to their children,” Botcha stressed.
Under the Nadu-Nedu program, the state government is developing public schools in line with corporate and private educational institutions. The government has partnered with Byju’s to provide quality education as well as enhance the skills of students.
In response to a question, Botcha said the pass percentage in this year's intermediate exams has not dropped. In fact, the pass percentage is higher than 2019. With the pass percentage in SSC exams this year declining after Covid-19, we are offering normal pass status by re-conducting the exams for the failed students. He also said that steps would be taken to overcome the shortage of teaching staff in schools.
