Leaving the impression of being a minor player in Gujarat, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is quietly paving the way for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to pave the way for it years ago. Mehsana serves as an example of how Arvind Kejriwal wants to break through the BJP stronghold by using a strategy similar to the Kashaya camp mantra for electoral victory.
During his Tiranga Yatra on Monday, Kejriwal dared to name state BJP chief CR Patil as 'Maha-thug' and quickly reminded the people of the honest work he had done for Delhi. The AAP convener clearly put the Delhi model against the BJP's Gujarat model development.
Narendra Modi Prime Minister of the BJP model has a brand name. The party derives its strength from booth level management extended to all villages. The AAP is trying to brand itself with Kejriwal, a well-known national leader who has exploited the anger among Punjab voters that led to massive defeats for all the mainstream parties in the February elections.
The Opposition has sought in many ways against the formidable BJP. The BJP has set up a one-page committee to reach every corner of Gujarat. AAP organizes village meetings (Gandu Betax). Such panels set up by the BJP do a good job of connecting people with the party. The village meetings of the AAP bring together the people of the city and the village to unite with the party.
In terms of development, the AAP opposes the BJP government's development model with the Delhi development model for education and employment. The BJP is asking for votes for road development, drinking water and other beneficiary schemes.
The AAP has promised to provide free electricity to workers, bus passes and employment to the youth on the Delhi model. For the 2022 Assembly elections, the BJP is using the 2014 Lok Sabha slogan "Abky Bar Modi Sarkar" while the AAP slogan is "May Mauno Kejriwal" (an opportunity for Kejriwal).
